Old love is the best love

I am presently taking care of an old golden Retriever who's dad is going through chemotherapy. Boy is he old (the dog). He is deaf, arthritic, senile, and so very, very attentive. He follows me into every room I am in. He recognizes me in the mirror, and if I wave to him in the reflection, he wags his tail. Because of a car accident 10 years ago (he is from the street), he cannot sit, only stand or lay down.

With all that, his heart and love has not changed one iota. It is amazing. He is so loving and present and ready to go. (way more than my Marie, who is quite content to just do her own thing, sleep, most of the day).

Today Spectacle goes home to his dad. I think he will help with his dad's healing, a lot. The companionship of pets is amazing for health. It is a wonderful benefit, gift we receive on top of all the rest of the good stuff!

It will be quiet here again when he goes today. Just me 'n Marie. For now...
