Pet Memorial: Big Easy. A big name for a darling little kitty
Big Easy. What a wonderful name for a cat. Big ears, big tail, little kitten. You can hear the potential in that name. A great cat to have around.
FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis, a type of feline coronavirus,FCoV) took him early. So I thought I would talk a bit about disease and loss.
Cats and dogs are susceptible to many kinds of diseases. Some, fortunately, are very curable, such as kennel cough. Some stay in the system, but are not going to hurt them. Lastly, there are those viruses, like that which took Big Easy, that there is no cure for.
This all speaks to the importance of getting your pet tested regularly, watching for signs, knowing your pet's natural behavior so you recognize when something is not right. Many people go into into denial that there is something wrong, and so avoid going to the vet. Please don't let this happen. The sooner a curable illness is caught, the easier it is to treat.
The incurable. It is the one we don't want to hear about. The one we don't want to happen to us. But sometimes it does. we go through life not knowing when we, our loved ones, or our pets are going to die. It is a blessing, this unknown. We don't have to think about death.
Then... sometimes we do have to think about. We have to accept in advance. It will permeate everything we do up to that time. Thoughts of 'getting it over with' are completely natural. It is just an avoidance mechanism of our brain, not some sign that we are bad people (really).
This is an opportunity to stay in the present. Realize that the only time we 'have' is the present. make the most of it. Take the opportunity to give your love, to accept their love. Stay in that moment. Redefine the moment. Become 'lucky' that you have this time together.
We are lucky to be able to experience love, even if it is a challenge. We are lucky.
Here's to Big Easy!
